Flavors & Fragrance Industry Webinar

This webinar is organized within the framework of Global Cosmetics Cluster in collaboration with Innov’Alliance, Prodarom and SNIAA.

Despite its crucial significance for both animals and humans, our current scientific knowledge about the functioning of the sense of smell remains limited. The COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on taste and smell have brought even greater attention to this enigmatic sense.

During this webinar, we will provide a comprehensive update on the sense of smell and its evolution, including retronasal olfaction and the specific effects of COVID-19 on the sense of smell. Topics covered will include pathological mechanisms, rehabilitation, and recovery of the olfactory sense.

Here is the program for the webinar:

  • Introduction – Pôle Innov’Alliance

  • How the nose knows – in you, a maggot and a Neanderthal – Professor Matthew Cobb, University of Manchester, School of Biological Sciences

  • Flavour perception: integrating smell and taste – Charlotte Sinding, Researcher in Neuroscience in Food Perception, INRAE, Center for Taste and Food Sciences in Dijon

  • Sensory effects of COVID-19: What happens to the nose? – Valentina Parma, Assistant Director & Assistant Member, Senses Center Monell Chemical Senses Center
